Obesity. The condition of being grossly fat or overweight. Sadly in America this is common due to our poor life choices. According to the most recent data, adult obesity rates now exceed 35 percent in four states, 30 percent in 25 states and are above 20 percent in all states. Louisiana has the highest adult obesity rate at 36.2 percent and Colorado has the lowest at 20.2 percent. U.S. adult obesity rates decreased in four states (Minnesota, Montana, New York and Ohio), increased in two (Kansas and Kentucky) and remained stable in the rest, between 2014 and 2015.(2004-2016 Trust for America s Health and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation) The cause of obesity seems simple. If you eat more calories than you burn through in physical activity, then you ll gain weight. But like many things, the simple explanation of it, is more complicated than it sounds. Therefore the most common causes of obesity are overeating and physical inactivity. Body weight is also the result of genetics, metabolic factors, lifestyle choices, environment, behavior, and culture, or among many other things. The cost of food and our society of how we sell our food, are one the main reason behind obesity in the United States. It is like, why would it cost a dollar or two for a whole fatty meal, and then cost five dollars or more for a simple salad?
