Lead and Cancer Research Papers
Lead and Cancer Research PapersThere are many people who are doing lead and cancer research to find the cause of cancer. It is estimated that a cancer survivor has a six in ten chance of developing a form of cancer in their lifetime. Lead is known to cause cancerous cells to multiply quickly, which is what causes cancer.Lead poisoning can start as early as six months old or as late as thirty years old. Children that are exposed to high levels of lead have been known to have decreased IQs and speech delays. When we consider the human body as a living thing, there is more than just the bloodstream that supports the body. For lead to harm the body, it must enter the bloodstream. The blood is one of the most vital organs in the body. Lead passes through the bloodstream on its way to the heart, lungs, brain, and kidneys.Lead can do a lot of damage if it goes to the heart. The heart can have an irregular heartbeat that may not be able to sustain life. People that suffer from high blood pres sure, diabetes, or high cholesterol are at risk for heart problems.Lead can also pass through the lungs, which is extremely dangerous because there is no blood supply in the lungs. If the lead is breathed in or ingested, the cells in the lungs will absorb it and become poisoned. Those who breathe in lead have been known to suffer from miscarriages and sudden infant deaths.Lead is known to affect the brain as well. There are some children that suffer from short-term memory loss, seizures, learning disabilities, and other mental problems. The effects that lead can have on the brain can cause an individual to be less alert, hyperactive, angry, and even impulsive.Lead that is not treated properly will come back to destroy the body. This is why lead is sometimes used in certain toys that have small parts such as nails. Because of the negative effects that lead can have on the body, it is not usually recommended that children ingest it.As long as lead does not enter the bloodstream, there is no reason for a person to be concerned about its harmful effects. If a person does suffer with adverse reactions after ingesting lead, they should seek medical attention immediately. By taking precautions now, a person can keep their risk of developing leukemia or other forms of cancer in their future.
